GTM due diligence for PE, VC and CEOs
Portrait of Semir Jahic

An operator, not a slide factory.

I have built and run go-to-market teams, and I started out in consulting. That mix is the point: the rigour to structure a diligence, and the scar tissue to know what actually works in a sales team.

At Clari I joined EMEA at the very start. Over four years we scaled the team from 0 to more than 30 people and won customers in 16 countries, and I was promoted four times, ending as Head of International Growth Strategy, Operations and Sales Engineering. Clari sells revenue forecasting, so I spent those years inside other companies’ pipelines and forecast calls. That is why I read a target’s CRM records before its slides.

How to test a sales forecast in one week

A practical method for testing a target's forecast: coverage, stage ageing, slipped deals and forecast against actual. What to ask for and what to see.

4 min read

How the practice works.

One senior person does the work from kick-off to debrief. There is no junior team learning on your deal, and no hand-off between the person who sells and the person who delivers.

I work from London and Zurich. Interviews and analysis happen remotely by default, which keeps timelines short and fees fixed, and I travel as required: on-site days are available for the management meeting when a deal justifies them.

Where a mandate is larger or needs more hands, a second senior joins. You always know who is doing what.

Independence and conflicts.

You are paying for a view you can rely on, so here is how it is protected.

Are you independent?
Yes. We take no fee from the target and we sell no software. Our only client in an engagement is the party that instructs us, and no partner relationship changes a score or a verdict.
Do you recommend other companies?
Yes. We keep a short list of selected companies we trust and partner with, and we recommend them where they fit. They come recommended, not required: you are free to choose anyone. If a partner would pay us a referral fee, we tell you before you decide.
What is the founder's other company, and how is it kept separate?
Salesmotion is an AI account-intelligence company for B2B revenue teams, founded and led by Semir Jahic. It is separate from this practice: no shared clients, no reselling, no use of its data. If a target or fund is a customer or competitor of Salesmotion, we say so in writing before work starts and only go ahead if you and we both agree.
